How do I stop the stabbing ear pain?!
That question screamed loudly in my head as I was landing in Chicago for a layover as I was returning home from a business trip. I thought, “There is no way I can continue the next 2+ hour flight home if this is what is waiting for me when I land!” I found myself seeking out the airport police who then called some EMTs. They had to remove an improperly placed cotton ball from my ear canal that I had used as one of several remedies I had tried to minimize aerotitis media - altitude ear / airplane ear - which impacts middle ear pressure due to changes in altitude.
Fast forward a couple of years – preferring to save myself the embarrassment of again visiting with emergency responders upon landing at an airport, and desperately needing to find a solution, I developed a disposable applicator that delivers a small amount of medicininal ointment to the opening of the ear canal.
